Converse Unveils Exclusive One Piece Chuck Taylors

If you love One Piece and consider yourself a sneaker-head, then you have got to check out Converse's upcoming releases. The iconic brand turns 100-years-old this year, and Japan is doing what it can to celebrate. To honor the legacy of the Chuck Taylor, One Piece will lend its biggest characters to the company for one ballin' crossover.

This August, Converse plans to release a commemorative One Piece sneaker for fans to fight over. The special edition All Star 100th Anniversary series will carry the anime-centric shoes. The One Piece sneakers will come as high-tops and have a character collage printed on them. Right now, the price for the exclusive shoes is set at 9,000 yen or about $81 before shipping.

Earlier this year, Converse released its first limited All Star sneakers from its anniversary collection. The original pair were labeled "Mickey Mouse Surfin Hi" as the sneakers were printed with the Disney character.

This is not the first clothing crossover which One Piece has okayed in the last year. A few months back, news broke that a Japan would be rolling out official lingerie based on the anime. The company Peach John released designs for its frilly undergarments which have since gone on sale. The line was based on female characters like Robin, and the brand is set to unveil a line of One Piece loungewear later this year.

Eiichiro Oda began his manga career in 1992 at the age of 17, when his one-shot cowboy manga Wanted! won second place in the coveted Tezuka manga awards. Oda went on to work as an assistant to some of the biggest manga artists in the industry, including Nobuhiro Watsuki, before winning the Hop Step Award for new artists. His pirate adventure One Piece, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1997, quickly became one of the most popular manga in Japan.
