In a move long past due, a feature-length Wonder Woman film debuted earlier this month and it was nothing short of a success. Entering its third weekend at the box office, the movie is slated to pass the $550 million mark in gross box office receipts while it maintains its critical acclaim with an 87.27 ComicBook.com Composite Score and it's Certified Fresh (92%) status on Rotten Tomatoes.
While Gal Gadot has only appeared in two properties in the DC Extended Universe so far, her comic book counterpart has existed for the better part of eight decades and the first woman to draw the character has now spoken out about the movie.
"Looking at Gal Gadot, she is like Wonder Woman in the flesh," artist Trina Robbins told Fusion. "I loved the movie."

Born in the late 1930s, Robbins grew up in an era where women and minorities had to break down walls to have a level playing field. Little did she know, Robbins broke the glass ceiling when DC Comics hired her in 1986 to draw The Legend of Wonder Woman, a four-issue mini-series.
"I didn't know I was blazing a trail. I didn't know I was the first woman to draw the Wonder Woman comic, I didn't really know that until years later," reflected Robbins. "[Themyscira] was an island where no boys were allowed! When I was a kid, I lived in a world where no girls were allowed."
After the mini-series, Robbins went on to team up with Colleen Doran on another DC Comics project, this time the project being Wonder Woman: The Once and Future Story, a graphic novel shedding light on the subject of spousal abuse.
"Every comic I ever drew was feminist. I couldn't help it. I want to be as brave and strong and beautiful as the girl heroes whose comic's I read," Robbins said. "I never ever gave her breasts that were bigger than her head or bottoms that turned into thong bikinis the way some of the guys did."
Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action-adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins and is written by Allan Heinberg, Geoff Johns, and Zack Snyder. The film stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince/Wonder Woman), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Robin Wright (General Antiope), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis (Etta Candy), Danny Huston, Ewen Bremmer, Doutzen Kroes, Samantha Jo (Euboea), Florence Kasumba (Senator Acantha), Said Taghmaoui, Eleanor Matsuura (Epione), Emily Carey (Young Diana), and Lisa Loven Kongsli (Menalippe).
Wonder Woman is in theaters now, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
