Dragon Ball Super: [SPOILER] Really Just Tried To Kill Goku

Good old, Freeza; He always knows how to get things moving in the Dragon Ball universe. Not long ago, the villain was revived temporarily by Fortuneteller Baba after Goku went to recruit the tyrant's help in saving Universe 7. The pair were barely on Earth long enough to exchange heated words before the pair were accosted by strange assassins. And, in Dragon Ball Super's latest episode, Freeza uses the pair's chaotic surroundings to kill Goku.
In the 95th episode of Dragon Ball Super, fans watched as Freeza went back to basics. The villain leveled up into his Golden form and began to slaughter the assassins which had been sent to eliminate him under bogus pretenses. Freeza had the upper-hand throughout the battle, so one of the assassins tried to use a dark energy ball which his universe's God of Destruction gifted to him in case of an emergency. Freeza manages to deal with the ball without getting scathed, but that doesn't stop the villain from setting it upon Goku.
After evading the energy ball and even escaping it, Freeza captures Goku in the massive attack when the Saiyan was distracted. Freeza ensnares his longtime enemy knowing the blast was crafted by a God of Destruction, and Freeza doesn't particularly care if Goku makes it out alive or not. In fact, the villain gloats to Goku about how he shouldn't have trusted Freeza so easily.
With Goku trapped in the energy blast, Freeza tries to negotiate with Universe 9 about joining their team; The villain is a fan of their ruthless plans, but Freeza is stopped when Whis and Beerus come to check up on the pair. Goku is let out of the energy attack by Beerus before it blows up in the distance. Goku survives the encounter, and Freeza then finds himself challenged to a spar by the Saiyan in retaliation.
The surprise trap from Freeza caught plenty of fans off-guard, but fans should expect nothing less from Freeza. The villain's involvement with the Tournament of Power has always been a selfish one; If Universe 7 does survive, Freeza requested he be revived permanently, and the baddie will find a way to see that happen. The famous antagonist has no attachments or loyalties to see through the survival of Universe 7. The rest of Freeza's team knows that, and it seems like Goku may as well.
The Saiyan may be known for being impressionable, but Goku can also be sly when need be. Fans are beginning to speculate Goku intentionally got himself trapped in Freeza's hijacked energy blast to listen in on his double-crossing plans and appear weaker than he truly is. The actions may prompt Freeza to underestimate Goku as he's done previously, leaving the Saiyan to ultimately shut the villain down when he crosses one line too many.
The synopsis of Dragon Ball Super's current saga can be read here:

But it is the beginning of universal destruction. Something awaits the winners and losers of this tournament. What will become of this fierce team battle between each universe's elite warriors?"
