Project Rap Rabbit Fails To Meet Its KickStarter Goal

Last month, we talked about a new project in the works from the creators of Parappa the Rapper and Gitaroo Man, under the name of Project Rap Rabbit. The game featured a dynamic play style, where players could rely on rhythmic gaming abilities to get through some fierce rap battles with the most unpredictable of opponents. Unfortunately, it didn't quite spark interest in players like the makers of the game were hoping.

The KickStarter project failed to meet its funding goal of 855,000 Euros, coming up way short within just hours of its conclusion. In fact, it only raised about a quarter of that amount, at 162,057 Euros.

As a result, the makers will not run the KickStarter program again, and are halting development on the game for the time being. "We sadly are not in the position to be able to fund further production for a future crowd-funding relaunch involving a title deeper in development," the latest update to the game read. "And wouldn't want to scale back our vision. As a result, work on Project Rap Rabbit cannot continue at this time."

But for those thinking that it may be done for entirely, that's not really the case. The creators took meetings at recent gaming events with interested parties, and there is a possibility that work could resume again in the future, should someone take an interest in funding.

While Project Rap Rabbit is based on a fascinating idea, it sounds like fans were more interested in seeing sequels to already-existing music franchises, like Parappa the Rapper – which recently saw an HD re-release on PlayStation 4 – and Gitaroo Man – which hasn't been seen since Gitaroo Man Lives! came out for the PlayStation Portable years ago. Maybe the developers could consider one of those before hopping back on board with the Rap Rabbit, considering their popularity over the past few years.

We'll see what the developers do once the project picks back up again. For now, at least we can dream about epic rap battles involving gangster toads and a heroic rabbit, right? I mean, 8 Mile it's not, but still…
