It's a great time to be an old-school Sega fan right now. With the recent launch of Sega Forever, a handful of classic Sega titles have invaded smartphones totally free of charge, and more games will be added every two weeks. Additionally, if you love to play on the big screen, PlayStation is hosting a Sonic the Hedgehog sale (found here). Across PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, pretty much every great Sonic game can be had for a great price.

Below you'll find all of the recently reduced prices:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog (PS3) - $1.99
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (PS3) - $1.99
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I (PS3) - $3.49
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II (PS3) - $4.99
  • Sonic Adventure (PS3) - $1.99
  • Sonic Adventure 2 (PS3) - $3.74

  • Sonic Rivals (Vita) - $6.99
  • Sonic Rivals 2 (Vita) - $6.99

If you'd like our recommendation, you absolutely can't go wrong with Sonic Generations or the first two Sonic the Hedgehog games. With those first two Genesis classics especially, you're going to find the type of gameplay, stage design, and even music, that defines an entire generation. It's rare to find games that stand the test of time over decades, but these games have done that.

If you don't own a PS3 or PlayStation Vita don't sweat it. You truly do get the last laugh because you can play Sonic the Hedgehog on your phone right now for free. You don't even have to use the touch-screen if you're allergic to touch controls, because Sega Forever games are totally compatible with controllers. Sega has claimed that "nearly every" game they've ever released will end up coming to the Sega Forever platform.

Don't forget, Sonic Mania's release is right around the corner, and will be hitting consoles on August 15. Grab yourself a 16-bit Sonic game in the meantime and hunker down. We're about to enter retro heaven.
