Pokemon Go
players can now participate in epic Raid battles, provided they're of a high enough level. Just a short while ago, Pokemon Go's social media accounts announced that players who were Level 35 or higher could now see and participate in raid battles at gyms.

Raids begin when an ultrapowered Pokemon temporarily takes over a gym. Players work together in groups of 20 or less to fight the Pokemon in a five minute battle. If the players defeat the Pokemon, they collectively earn special items and also have a chance to capture a weakened version of the Pokemon.

Raid battles were part of the original pitch for Pokemon Go and were featured in the game's reveal trailer last year. In that trailer, hundreds of Pokemon fought and defeated a Mewtwo in Times Square.

While most Raid Battles won't feature Legendary Pokemon, Pokemon Go confirmed that players will eventually see Legendary Raid battles in the game.

In order to participate in raids, players will need a Raid Pass. Players can collect one Raid Pass a day from gyms, or purchase them from the store for 100 coins a pass.

While Raids are limited to just high level players for the time being, the game will eventually roll out the feature to all players over the next few weeks.
