It's hard to believe that Sonic the Hedgehog just celebrated its 26th anniversary – yep, the iconic blue wonder is that old – but he's certainly celebrating in style. Along with two great games that are coming our way later this year, Sega has just announced he'll be getting some love on the music side of things as well.

The publisher has announced that it has partnered up with Data Discs to produce a special edition of the soundtrack for Sonic Mania in vinyl form, with pre-orders set to go in mid-July. Those interested in doing so can go to this page, and learn more about how to get your orders in.

Sonic Mania's album is nicely designed, with packaging that features Sonic and friends celebrating on the front, as well as an iconic insert cover featuring the classic Green Hill Zone, which will be introduced in the new game. And, get this, one of the particular albums will be available in translucent blue, as you can see above. Yes, a blue disc!

There are three different versions of the album that will be available, including the translucent blue one featured in these pictures, as well as a Limited Edition that will be available exclusively through Data Discs, and a regular classic black edition, for those that prefer the music to a big show-off piece. Prices haven't been given yet, but the Limited Edition will likely be the most expensive.

The soundtrack features select tracks from composer Tee Lopes, and a digital download code will also come with each vinyl album sold, so you can take your music on the go without having to carry around a turntable. Whew.

Part of the soundtrack has already been made available via SoundCloud, so you can get a sample of what's to come from the full release. The track is called "Lights, Camera, Action!", and it's taken straight from the Studiopolis Act 1 in Mania. Check it out below!

The soundtrack doesn't have a release date yet, but the Sonic Mania game is set to arrive on August 15th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch, so it's likely to release around the same time. One thing's for sure – fans won't want to miss it! (Either the game or the soundtrack.)

While we're at it, how about this cool Sonic collectible? We need more room on our shelf.
