While Wonder Woman has been in theaters for over a month, audiences have found countless reasons to praise the DC Extended Universe film.
And now, author and costume designer Amanda Weaver has highlighted the film's impressive take on historically accurate female armor. In a series of tweets, Weaver praised Lindy Hemming's costume design, especially compared to the more sexualized depictions of the title character in past live-action adaptations.

She then cited the historical influences on Wonder Woman's costumes, from the Roman leather costumes worn by Antiope (Robin Wright) and Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), to the metal breastplates worn by the Amazon warriors. You can check out concept art of it here.

Weaver's analysis ended with a heartfelt admission - that the amount of respect and intent displayed in the film brought her to tears.
That design showed respect. The intent was to portray these women as warriors first and foremost.

Gal Gadot made her debut as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. She will return as Wonder Woman alongside the DC Extended Universe's other heroes in Justice League in November 2017.

Wonder Woman was directed by Patty Jenkins from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg, based on a story by Heinberg, Zack Snyder, and Jason Fuchs. Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, and Elena Anaya.
Wonder Woman is now playing in theaters.
