In 2011, Marvel Studios releases its first Thor film, and the world was introduced to Chris Hemsworth's take on the imposing god. Later this year, Thor will once again strut out for his third movie, and Kevin Feige seems to think the release will mark the end of an important trilogy.
During his recent press rounds for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Kevin Feige sat down with the Toronto Sun to talk all things Marvel. It was there the Marvel Studios president was asked if Thor: Ragnarok would mark the end of a trilogy. Here is what the producer had to say:
"I think that we are finding ourselves as we complete Phase 3 and finish this 22-movie narrative that it's working out that way. We did three Iron Man films, three Captain America films, three Thor films. Things change drastically in Ragnarok and then build directly into Infinity War."
Of course, Feige isn't wrong about his trilogy notes. The MCU has a fixation with the number three. Heroes like Iron Man and Captain America have three solo films under their belts, and Thor will round out the group. Those Avengers have gotten a brighter spotlight than other MCU heroes given their outright popularity, but other Marvel icons may soon get their own trilogies.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is confirmed to be the first of three films centered around Peter Parker. Guardians of the Galaxy will also be getting a third film, and Ant-Man may head that way once its sequel drops. As the MCU moves towards its ultra-secretive Phase 4, Marvel Studios will need to find new heroes to reel audiences in after the chaos that will be Avengers 3 & 4.
So far, it looks like fans are hyped for Thor's comeback this November. The movie's first trailer dropped back in April, and the retro footage racked up an insane amount of views. The trailer for Thor: Ragnarok accrued over 136 million views in just 24 hours, making it Marvel's most—viewed trailer within that time frame.
