Marvel Studios's first solo Spider-Man film looks to earn about $10 million at Thursday night previews ahead of its opening weekend.
That would put it on par with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Doctor Strange, each of which earned between $9 million and $11 million on their preview nights in recent years.
Homecoming is projected to earn anywhere from $85 million to $110 million during its opening weekend. The film will be showing in 4,341 North American locations, with almost 400 showing it in IMAX. With a projected international pull of between $90 and $120 million, the film is likely to open with about $200 million at the global box office.
This projection is about on par with earlier reports, which predicted that the film would gross $90-100 in its North American debut weekend.
Homecoming marks the biggest collaboration yet between Sony and Marvel Studios, putting it in a unique position for comparisons. Although Sony has brought in higher earnings with its previous Spider-Man installments - particularly Spider-Man 3's opening gross of $151 million - this new prediction places it about on par with many other MCU outputs.
Franchise-establishing films such as Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy opened to $95-100 million earnings, something that Homecoming could easily achieve as well. Fans will just have to wait and see exactly how much money the film brings in this weekend.
Spider-Man: Homecoming premieres in theaters July 7.
