The market of in-game microtransactions ranging from cosmetics to useful items within free-to-play mobile games is nothing to scoff at as early and recent players of the games can likely attest to. Some regions spend more on these games depending on what that particular game is, and in the case of Pokemon Go, it seems that Japanese players spend as much as three times the amount of money that U.S. players do on the game.

According to data from Sensor Tower, Pokemon Go players in Japan have spent over $26 per download on the game over the course of the past 12 months, easily making the country the highest on the list of spending. The No. 2 spot does go to the United States, but it hardly comes close to the top spot with just $7.70 being spent per download. Rounding out the bottom of the data chart was France with only $2.80 being spent per download, a figure just under South Korea's $3 per download.

Japan only held the lead in per-download spending though, as the highest gross revenue generated from the game went to the U.S. with ease. Japan accounted for around $318 million in revenue while the U.S. provided a whopping $424 million made solely off of in-app purchases. That means that while the average player in Japan might've been spending more on the game, there were quite a few players in the U.S. who were dishing out some serious cash for those upgrades and incubators.

With all this spending being done within the first year that the game's been out, Pokemon Go has grossed close to $1.2 billion since its release. Not too bad for a free-to-play game that many players think people have forgotten about.
