When Black Panther rolls around come February, it's going to showcase one of the strongest casts a solo superhero flick has ever seen. Directed and co-written by Ryan Coogler, the film features the solo film debut of T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) while introducing several Wakandan-based characters such as Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), Nakia (LpuitaNyong'o), Okoye (Danai Gurira), Ramonda (Angel Bassett), and Zuri (Forest Whitaker).
Getting prepared for what's sure to be a must-attend panel at San Diego Comic Con next week, Coogler went over what exactly got him into comics as a kid.
Speaking with EW, Coogler was first drawn to comic books after seeing the mutant time-traveler Bishop. After spending some time researching the X-Men and finding out about how the conflict mutants faced mirrored that of the 1960s Civil Rights movement, Coogler went down to his local comic book store to find more comics featuring black superheroes.
Enter Black Panther.
A character Coogler loved reading about as a kid is now on pace to get his own solo movie set in the MCU and the Creed director is a large reason why.
The best part of it all? Coogler told EW that after he was hired to write and direct one of Marvel's latest entries, he and his wife went back to visit the same comic store he found his first Black Panther comic and just like that, the most recent Black Panther run remained in the same exact spot.

Ross), Daniel Kaluuya (W'Kabi), Angela Bassett (Ramonda), Forest Whitaker (Zuri), Andy Serkis (Ulysses Klaw), Florence Kasumba (Ayo), John Kani (King T'Chaka), Winston Duke (M'Baku/Man-Ape), Sterling K. Brown (N'Jobu), and Letitia Wright (Shuri).
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming are both in theaters now, and will be followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
