Doctor Who Anti-Fans Trolled By Merriam-Webster

There's always a lot of buzz when a character from a comic or a tv show has a gender or race change. Doctor Who is no different. Heck, pretty much every new Doctor is met with screams of "I"M NEVER WATCHING AGAIN!" - even when time after time it's a white guy that doesn't have ginger hair.

So, when the long running BBC series made the decision to regenerate the new Doctor as a woman, the internet lost it. Never mind that this an alien that regenerates into a different look every couple seasons, people claimed that the Doctor HAD to be a man. Even former Doctor's were squabbling about it. Peter Davison, as reported in The Guardian said, "If I feel any doubts, it's the loss of a role model for boys, who I think Doctor Who is vitally important for. So I feel a bit sad about that, but I understand the argument that you need to open it up. As a viewer, I kind of like the idea of the Doctor as a boy but then maybe I'm an old fashioned dinosaur – who knows?"

Another Doctor, Colin Baker strongly disagreed, "They've had 50 years of having a role model. So, sorry Peter, you're talking rubbish there – absolute rubbish," he said. "You don't have to be of a gender of someone to be a role model. Can't you be a role model as people?"

However one feels about you can just wait it out as with all Doctors, their time ends and someone else gets a chance at the role. The fight over an aliens gender has made into multiple meme's and jokes - so it shouldn't come as a surprise that twitter troller Merriam-Webster took a bite at the ruckus simply tweeting out "'Doctor' has no gender in English."

Even that simple tweet got people arguing. But what won't on the internet?
