When Marvel announced that former Game of Thrones star Iwon Rheon would play the villainous Maximus in its upcoming Inhumans series, fans acknowledged that it was basically a perfect casting choice.

However, Rheon revealed at San Diego Comic-Con's Inhumans panel on Thursday that he was a bit hesitant to move from one psychopathic character to another. "I looked into who this Maximus guy was and I was worried that I was just doing the same thing over again and that I would be type-cast," Rheon told attendees on Thursday. "But [Jeph Loeb] convinced me that we could do something unique and different with this character."

Rheon also pointed out that Maximus came from a totally different place than the evil Ramsey. In the show, Maximus is one of the few Inhumans to have no powers at all, which usually is a mark of shame in Inhuman society. "He went through a terrigenesis and he became nothing. In this society where your status is based on what power you have, he should have been working the mines. But he's in the position that he is simply because he is in the brother of the king."

While Ramsey was motivated mostly by cruelty and the desire to secure power, Maximus's goals were much more noble. "He is motivated to be a revolutionary and a forward-thinker and try to change the world for the better for the people that he identifies with."

"He is still ruthless, but he loves his people and his family, but it is a lonely world. His belief in what he is doing and what he thinks is right, and he is trying to stop suffering and the cost of the decisions he makes starts to shape him and it is quite a MacBeth-type vibe."

It sounds like there's a lot more to Maximus than being a Ramsey Bolton-lite. We'll see more of Maximus and the rest of the Inhuman Royal Family when Inhumans airs on September 1 in theaters and September 29 on ABC.
