The producers of AMC's The Walking Dead cancelled a press event at the Television Critics Association's press tour in favor of attending the funeral for John Bernecker, who passed away after being injured performing a stunt on set of the series.
The event was scheduled for Saturday, which conflicts with the services which will honor Bernecker. AMC released a statement regarding the cancellation on Thursday.
"We wanted to make you aware that, unfortunately, we will no longer be able to present our panel with The Walking Dead executive producers. The panel conflicts with the funeral services for our stuntman John Bernecker, which Scott Gimple and some of the other EPs will be attending," the network announced.
Scheduled to attend were showrunner Scott Gimple, writer/creator Robert Kirkman, and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert, and Greg Nicotero. The event would have discussed the upcoming eighth season which kicks off with the 100th overall episode.

Kirkman will still be in attendance for his Saturday panel, centering around AMC's new docuseries, Secret History of Comics.
After cancelling all press events with the exception of the Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con, Gimple began the panel by paying tribute to Bernecker with a touching statement, following Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick's moment of silence before the Fear the Walking Dead panel.
"John passed away this week, after he was injured doing something he loved: helping tell stories that excite, entertain, and give people an escape," Gimple said. "He helped make movies and shows for people like everybody in this room. John was someone beloved in the stunt community; someone who trained other people and helped them break into the business. He was living his dream, and he helped other people do the same thing. We didn't really know if we should do this panel today, but we wanted to be here for you. And we wanted to tell you about John, and we wanted to show you what we've all been working on."
