In the first trailer for Marvel's The Defenders we saw Jessica Jones getting her first introduction to Matt Murdock in Misty Knight's interrogation room. It's a decidedly unfriendly way to meet someone for the first time and, with the Netflix debut of the miniseries fast approaching, Daredevil star Charlie Cox says that the pair aren't going to be pals anytime soon.

Speaking with Playboy, Cox said the two unlikely heroes are simply too much alike to be friends.

"They don't like each other," said Cox. "They're too similar. They're too stubborn. They're too opinionated. They don't have time for each other."

The two characters do have a lot in common. Jessica is carrying a lot of emotional trauma and avoiding talking about destroying Kilgrave while the death of Elektra has similarly shattered Matt, leading the Devil of Hell's Kitchen to reject his secret identity.

However, as the heroes unite with a common goal of taking on the Hand the relationship between the heroes grudgingly starts to shift. Cox said that some of his favorite scenes to film were those where Matt and Jessica slowly start to like and respect one another.

"They kind of respect each other. They would never tell the other person that. That was really fun to play with," he said.

Viewers can also expect the Matt and Jessica dynamic to bring a little bit of brightness to the otherwise dark characters.

"All of our shows had been quite serious, they're tonally quite dark. But you can't put someone like Matt Murdock, who wears a super hero costume in a room with Jessica Jones and not make jokes. You can't."

Jokes about Daredevill's costume aside, it will be interesting to see how each of the Defenders relationships develop when the show drops on Netflix August 18th.

Marvel's The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
