One of the most exciting aspects of the latest Netflix series from Marvel will be seeing the first meeting between Iron Fist and Luke Cage. But the future Heroes for Hire will have a strange dynamic when The Defenders hits the streaming service.
Stars Mike Colter and Finn Jones recently spoke with Playboy ahead of the crossover series' premiere, teasing how their relationship will develop over the course of eight episodes.
"Danny [Rand]'s very reckless in his behavior," Jones said. "He's just punching things, throwing his cash around. He comes into someone like Luke Cage, who is the complete opposite, and Luke's just like, 'Whoa, kid. If we're going to work together, you need to really realize a few things.'"
Although their initial meeting in the series is hostile, the two eventually begin to work together thanks to some matchmaking from friends Colleen Wing and Claire Temple. But while Danny is eager to learn from Luke, Harlem's hero is not too keen on doling out pearl's of wisdom to the Immortal Weapon.
"The first four episodes serve to get him out of that world, and out of the mentality of looking over your shoulder, and worrying about your past," Colter said. "I think we will see a new Luke because of it."
While we might not see them establish a Heroes for Hire LLC by The Defenders' end, we might see the beginnings of their friendship that can be explored in the future. The Defenders future as a team, in the classic sense, is pretty uncertain at this point, but Marvel would be missing out if they didn't at least explore the classic Iron Fist and Luke Cage friendship.
We'll get our first taste of Heroes for Hire when The Defenders premieres on Netflix on August 18.
Marvel's The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
