Marvel's Inhumans is expected to make its premiere early next month, but its mixed reception isn't holding one director back from hyping the series' trove of easter eggs.
Roel Reine is one of the several directors asked to oversee Marvel's Inhumans. Reine worked on the miniseries' IMAX episodes, and the director wants fans to go into theaters with keen eyes; After all, he did tell Collider his episodes will reference the Marvel Universe often.
Reine did an interview with Collider to talk about his IMAX stint on Marvel's Inhumans. The director was asked if his work will connect to the larger Marvel Universe, and Reine confessed he is a veritable easter egg junkie.
"Oh yes, and I'm fighting on a daily basis with Marvel about it. Because I love Easter eggs. I'm a big Easter egg guy," Reine said.
"I love blogs about people are blogging about it. They always tell me not to look at the blogs, to stay away from this world, but I think you know there is a big audience and you make this project for that audience, for myself, but also for that audience, so I tried to put a lot of Easter eggs in and a lot of Marvel things in."
As for what Reine's easter eggs may be, fans will have to check out the premiere episodes of Marvel's Inhumans to find out. The director did say he tended to focus on the show's connection to the Kree, one of the Marvel Universe's most famous alien races.
"One of the things I'm really proud of is that the The Kree created the Inhumans. The Kree is kind of the Gods of the Marvel universe for a lot of characters. And The Kree have a special language. A special style of language," Reine explained.
"I had the art director and you will see it when you see the other sets. I had the art director build The Kree language in like an hieroglyphe way. Like it's been there for ages, before the humans were created. So we build them in the sets."
Aside from Kree connections, there is little else known about how Marvel's Inhumans will tie into the MCU, but fans are hoping for a few other nods. The trailer for the miniseries featured an overt reference to Agents of SHIELD and its ongoing Nu-Humans story lines. If fans are lucky, Marvel's Inhumans might just give them more tie-ins between its royal family and Agent Coulson's famous SHIELD posse.
Marvel's Inhumans will debut on IMAX September 1 before its ABC premiere airs on September 29.
