Jeff Bridges On Playing 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle' Good Guy Vs. 'Iron Man' Villain

Only a handful of actors can say they have played multiple characters based on comic book counterparts. Jeff Bridges is one of those actors, several times over, and has a surprising preference when it comes to playing the good guy versus being the villain.
In 2008, Bridges helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his portrayal of Obediah Stain in Iron Man. This weekend, he plays a key role in Kingsman: The Golden Circle as the Statesman are thrown into the mix with Bridges' Champagne character in charge. Still, Bridges thinks its bit more fun to be bad.
"Both of them are wonderful," Bridges said comparing the two roles. "Bad guys are fun to play, though. They're great."
As for his characters in Kingsman: The Golden Circles, Bridges didn't want to spill too many details to ruin the experience for fans, but he opened up a bit about his new role.
"He's the head of the counterpart to the Kingsman," Bridges said. "The American counterpart. He's the head of the Statesman. There's a certain western to the Statesman. A cowboy vibe, you know? We're all named after booze. The Kingsman are the Arthurian Knights and we're all named after booze. I'm called 'Champ.' My full name is Champagne, which my character doesn't like too much and I like to be referred to as Champ."
Bridges is not the only newcomer to the Kingsman franchise with The Golden Circle. He is also joined by first timers Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, and film's villainous Julianne Moore. Matthew Vaughn returns to direct the sequel with Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, and Mark Strong returning to their Kingsman roles.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens in theaters on September 22, 2017.
