Don't Expect Hela To Be A Female Loki In 'Thor: Ragnarok'

Hela will be making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Thor: Ragnarok - and Cate Blanchett made sure she was a truly unique villain.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Blanchett shot down any similarities between Hela and Thor fan-favorite Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
"I have a vagina [Laughs]." Blanchett pointed out. "So I don't think he has the vagina– although I don't know if Hela has a vagina either. She's a goddess– I don't know, I don't know [Laughs]."
As Blanchett explained, she worked with the Marvel film's creative team to truly differentiate Hela from Loki, after her initial concept art did resemble the villain.
"No… the original sketches that I got, Tom and I were just talking about that actually, they were quite similar." Blanchett revealed. "So Taika [Waititi] and I, and the producers, and Mayes [Rubio] who's the costume designer... Hela looked very similar to Loki, and I said 'OK, well how can we either make that a virtue, or be a little bit more creative with that?'"
According to Blanchett, this led to a distinct aesthetic for Hela - one that audiences will see as the film goes along.
And they were really receptive to it. So even though Hela doesn't carry the whole film – and that's not a spoiler – I've tried with the Makeup and Hair people and all of the different departments to give her a kind of visual journey, so that she's got somewhere to go as she becomes increasingly powerful. That look evolves and calcifies a little bit."
While the pair of characters might have a different look and attitude from each other, they will have a bit in common within Ragnarok itself. As produer Brad Winderbaum told us at visit to the film's set, Loki's past actions in the MCU will influence how Hela gets to Asgard.
