Quentin Tarantino has had a close relationship with Harvey Weinstein throughout his years in Hollywood, and the director has finally spoken out about the scandal surrounding the executive.

Over the last week, numerous women have come forward with stories of how Weinstein sexually assaulted them throughout his long career, and he's since been fired from The Weinstein Company, which he founded with his brother. The Weinteins helped give Tarantino a career as a director, and he released a statement Thursday night saying that he was "heartbroken" by what he was hearing.

"For the last week I've been stunned and heartbroken about the revelations that have come to light about my friend for 25 years, Harvey Weinstein," Tarantino wrote in a statement. "I need a few more days to process my pain, emotions, anger and memory and then I will speak publicly about it."

Tarantino's friend, actress Amber Tamblyn, released the statement from the director in a tweet on Thursday. She first tweeted that she had a "long dinner" with Tarantino, and that she was going to release his statement on Weinstein. She followed that tweet up with her friend's message.

All eight of Tarantino's movies have been distributed by the Weinsteins, either at Miramax or The Weinstein Company.
