Ever since Sylvester Stallone appeared as Starhawk in the second Guardians of the Galaxy film, fans have been wondering if it was just a cameo appearance or if there's a larger plan in place for the original incarnation of the team.

A new Q&A session on Facebook from writer/director James Gunn indicates the team is here to stay and the original Guardians will continue playing a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gunn was commemorating the first appearance of the Guardians 48 years ago when he hinted at his future plans for the team.

Gunn is currently hard at work on the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is rumored to release in theaters sometime in 2020.

That film is said to be the launching point for a greater plan in the cosmic corner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which could include characters like Adam Warlock, Nova, and the Ravagers (AKA the team name for the original Guardians characters).

While we probably shouldn't expect a proper Ravagers movie in the future, seeing that Gunn has a plan for Stallone, Miley Cyrus, Ving Rhames, Michael Rosenbaum, and Michelle Yeoh should be encouraging to fans.

Hopefully we learn more as we get closer to the third film in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.
