Paramount is bringing is bringing the saga of Lone Wolf and Cub to live-action for western audiences.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has set Seven screenwriter Kevin Walker to pen the film's script. Justin Lin, the director of several Fast & Furious movies and Star Trek Beyond, is producing on behalf of his own Perfect Storm alongside Marissa McMahon and Kamala Films.

Written by Kazuo Koike and drawn by Goseki Kojima, Lone Wolf and Cub began publication in 1970. The historical saga ran for over 9,000 pages. It was critically-acclaimed and proved popular enough to spawn Japanese films and television series. The manga series influenced many Western comics legends, including Frank Miller, who channeled Lone Wolf and Cub in stories like Wolverine and Ronin.

The story of Lone Wolf and Cub follow a shogun's executioner named Itto Ogami who is left a ronin after his entire noble house is wiped out, leaving only himself and his infant son, Daigoro, alive. Itto raises Daigoro and trains him as an assassin so that together they can claim revenge on those responsible for the death of their house and family.

Paramount has been trying to get the adaptation of Lone Wolf and Cub off the ground since 2003, even attaching Darron Aronofsky to direct at one point. Aronofsky has since left the project, which is still without a director.

In addition to Seven, Walker has scripted films including 8MM, Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, and the 2010 remake of The Wolfman.
