After the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren has been humiliated. And that drives his actions moving forward, wanting to stamp out the Resistance and his remaining personal connections, and maybe get some revenge against the novice who bested him.

But when it comes to Rey and Kylo Ren, their two fates are intertwined, as will be apparent when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters.

"He has been aware of this ability in himself from such a young age, and I don't think there's a lot of people around him who are on the same level," said Driver during a conversation with EW.

And despite his hatred for Rey, the actor sensed the common ground they share.

"I think that there is something familiar there, as well as something to be feared, or something … that he can't quite place," Driver said.

But while Kylo Ren feels like he belongs in the Dark Side, Rey doesn't know how to feel.

"She doesn't really know what she wants," said Ridley. "She really is trying to do the right thing and morally, her compass is really pointing north… The Resistance is really not that much to her. I mean, she's been left her whole life, and very quickly is eager to sort of help other people, which is wonderful. She wants to be part of something. I mean, everyone wants to be part of something."

But Luke Skywalker rejects her, fearing her potential power rather than embracing it. And that will affect her trajectory, according to writer and director Rian Johnson.

"This is very much about Rey trying to figure out how she fits into all this, much like any of us as we're growing up, as we're transitioning from childhood into adulthood," said Johnson. "You're going meet people who you think are going help who don't. And help is also going come from unexpected places."

The trailers so far have teased some major moments for Rey, especially the moments where she raises her lightsaber, presumably, over Luke Skywalker, and the other where Kylo Ren extends a hand.

But some clever editing can mislead fans so as not to spoil things, and the latest TV spot has a moment where Rey says to Luke, "Kylo failed you. I won't."

We'll see where Rey, Luke, and Kylo Ren end up when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15.
