Netflix wasn't playing around when it announced plans to dive into the world of anime. The streaming service is working on 30 original anime projects, and a new trailer just dropped for its long-awaited Devilman film. And, as you can see, the slick clip proves Netflix knows what it is doing when it comes to anime.

The trailer, which can be seen above, gives a scenic view of the new Devilman reboot. The film gravitates towards richly dark colors, and its smooth animation style has got anime fans feeling friendly.

If you are not familiar with Devilman: Crybaby, you should know the series is an adaptation of Go Nagai's manga from 1972. The horror shonen title is one of Japan's darker series, and Netflix plans to capitalize on its grit with director Masaski Yuasa.

The movie will follow Akira Fudo, a student who learns from his best friend Ryo Asuka that demons are coming to reclaim the earth. With humanity fated to lose against the demonic onslaught, Ryo suggests one of them combines with a demon to fend off the threat. Akira is the one who combines with an unearthly demon to become the Devilman, a terrifying monster with all the power of a hellion but the heart of a human.

The adaptation seems to stay in line with Nagai's story. The manga lays out its intense mythology as it introduces the war between angels and demons. When the feud comes to a head, demons are sent underground to hibernate. When the demons make plans to rise up and take back the planet, Akira Fudo is fused with the powerful demon Amon to fight against the incoming threat. However, the teenage boy learns controlling his demonic alter-ego isn't as easy as he had hoped.
