Ahead of the Blu-ray and DVD release of Despicable Me 3, which will be in stores December 5, franchise star Steve Carell took some time out to talk about his role as Gru, the leader of the Minions and reformed supervillain.

Universal has provided ComicBook.com with an exclusive clip from that conversation.

"It was exciting to create something entirely new that would fit into this world," Carell said. "I love the idea of this brother; he's not very much like Gru at all….Drew is very silly and very crazy and funny and I think Gru takes things much more seriously and is more literal."

You can check the full video out above.

After he is fired from the Anti-Villain League for failing to take down Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker), the latest evil mastermind to threaten humanity, Gru finds himself in the midst of a major identity crisis. But when a mysterious stranger shows up to inform Gru that he has a long-lost twin brother — a brother who desperately wishes to follow in his twin's despicable footsteps — the former super-villain rediscovers just how good it feels to be bad.

"As you find in the course of the movie, they do share more than they actually know," Carell said.

Despicable Me 3, starring Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig, is available now on Digital and is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on December 5.

The home release includes a new mini-movie, a deleted scene, in-universe informercials, and much more bonus content unavailable anywhere else.
