Riverdale's season two midseason finale gave fans a lot to process - including a romantic moment between two of its characters. So, what's next?

Spoilers for Riverdale's midseason finale, "Silent Night, Deadly Night", below!

As Riverdale fans know, last week's midseason finale saw Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) teaming up to take down the Black Hood. In the process, the pair sort of rekindled their romantic feelings for each other, which culminated in a kiss.

For some of the show's fans - particularly those who ship Betty and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) - the idea of "Barchie" might be too much to bear. And as Reinhart revealed in a recent interview with Glamour, she understands those feelings.

"I feel like there's going to be a freak-out, but I think they're going to try to calm themselves down by saying it wasn't really romantic and was kind of in the heat of the moment." Reinhart explained. "Like, it wasn't premeditated. It wasn't really a romance that was building necessarily; it was just something that happened really quickly, and I think that's what is going to keep the Bughead fans at ease. They're going to be like, 'OK, I don't really know if there's a romance here. I think it was just a spur-of-the-moment action.'"

"But there are people who do enjoy Betty and Archie together and are excited to see that relationship, so I'm happy for them." Reinhart continued. "[At the same time,] I'm also kind of sad for the Bughead fans because they see this other coupling that they don't like coming together. It kind of scares them because their 'ship' that they love is being torn apart."

As Riverdale fans have seen, the status of the show's many ships seem to fluctuate quite a bit. With that in mind, Reinhart says that fans of any ship should keep up hope in one way or another.

"But you know, it's a drama on The CW." Reinhart explained. "The characters are 16, so there's going to be back-and-forth all over the place all the time. I don't think any one "ship"—like a Bughead, or a Barchie, or Varchie fans—should give up hope at any time because you never know."

As of now, it's unsure what's next for Betty and Archie - especially with Archie also kissing Veronica at the episode's end. But as Reinhart pointed out, someone probably already knows about Betty and Archie's kiss - Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch).

"Yeah, I think it's safe to say that Cheryl saw them kiss." Reinhart added. "Knowing Cheryl, she is going to have that knowledge and keep it in her back pocket if and when she wants to use it against them."

Riverdale returns from midseason hiatus on January 17th, 2018.
