The Force was not with Star Wars: The Last Jedi this weekend.

After only narrowly coming in behind Disney's latest Star Wars installment last weekend, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle took the top spot this weekend while the horror film Insidious: The Last Key opened in second place. The Last Jedi landed in third.

The Jumanji sequel brought in $36 million this weekend while the fourth film in the Insidious franchise earned a solid $29.3 million, the second-largest debut of the franchise. The Last Jedi, which dominated the box office for the previous three weeks and has brought in over $1 billion worldwide, trailed behind with $23.6 million.

This domestic box office fall for the latest Star Wars movie comes at the same time the film had a disappointing opening in China. The Last Jedi opened in second place with only a $28.7 million opening weekend haul there, coming in far behind the Chinese romantic comedy The Ex-Files 3: The Return of the Exes, which brought in $86.7 million.

As for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the film continues to be a success for Sony. The film was initially projected to earn $45 million in its first six days, but readily surpassed that, bringing in $185 million over 13 days. The film which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan, will be released in China next weekend.
