Dragon Ball Super fans have been dealt a huge blow recently, finding out that not only has Fuji TV removed the series from its timeslot in April but that the series is in fact ending. The fanbase has had a divisive response from the news with some hoping it's a hiatus meant to re-allocate assets for the upcoming film, and others just heartbroken over the fact that the series as we know it is over.

While the fanbase has been up in the air wondering what the actual future of the series will be, Fuji TV has commented and cemented that this really is the end of Super.

Seiji Nakazawa of RocketNews24 asked Fuji TV about Dragon Ball Super's upcoming ending, and they responded with, "Yes, the series presently on air will end here for now."

Still in doubt, Nakazawa further pressed with "Really, so it's not just changing to another timeslot?" And Fuji TV responded with, "At present it is ending; beyond that is still undecided."

Confirming fan's worst fears, Dragon Ball Super is officially ending. Though there is a slight hope in Fuji TV's statement. Rather than a hiatus, the Super series is set to end though it does not eliminate the possibility for new entries into the franchise.

Fuji TV further confirmed that the currently running "Universal Survival" arc will wrap up by the end of March, and when asked about a possible sequel to the series, Fuji TV further emphasized the facts that there are no concrete plans in place. The future of the franchise overall is still undecided, but Super will have a definitive end.

Dragon Ball Super's "Universal Survival" arc is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. DragonBall Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturday evenings at 7:15 p.m. CST. Adult Swim airs the English dub during its Toonami block Saturday evenings at 9:30 p.m, and is now available to stream on FunimationNOW and Amazon Video.

There is also currently a new Dragon Ball film in the works for 2018. The film will focus on the Saiyans, the "origins of Goku's power," and potentially the story of the very first Super Saiyan God. Not only does it aim to be the best film in the series, original creator Akira Toriyama will be contributing to the film's script and new character designs.
