The X-Men Movie universe TV spinoff finally has an official name: Get ready for Gifted.
Unlike current X-Men series Legion, Gifted will be spun directly out of the X-Men movie continuity. The show will revolve around parents who discover their child is a mutant, and must join an underground system of other desperate families and mutant freedom fighters, trying to oppose or escape government persecution.
Burn Notice creator Matt Nix is running the show, and cast members include True Blood's Stephen Moyer as a human parent, and Sucker Punch's Jamie Chung as Blink.
Fans of X-Men comic books will of course remember the name "Gifted" from the 2004 Joss Whedon and John Cassaday comic book series Astonishing X-Men. The very first arc of that book was titled "Gifted," and featured a storyline about a supposed cure for the mutant gene, and big dilemma about what should be done with it. Of course, that storyline was already harvested for the plot of X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006.
If anything, fans have more reason to worry that a title like "Gifted" is an on-the-nose metaphor for a parent's love over his/her child, implying what could potentially be an overly sappy drama instead of a proper X-Men TV series.
Although, no one ever saw something as unique and weird and great as Legion coming, so...
