Black Lighting Officially Not In The Arrowverse

The people have wondered, and now it's been made official. The CW's latest DC show, Black Lightning, will not take place in the Arrowverse.

On a conference call Thursday morning, CW President Mark Pedowitz said that the show would not crossover with the other DC programs on the network.

"We do not intend to do a 5 way crossover. Black Lightning at this point is not part of the Arrowverse."

The other four DC programs - Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow - have all intersected at one point or another. There have been multiple crossover events, and the first three shows helped set up the characters who became the focal point of Legends of Tomorrow.

It's odd that Black Lightning won't exist within the same rules or universe, considering the same producers are making the series, on the same network where the others exist. Nevertheless, the new sounds like a great adventure waiting to happen.

Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Almost a decade later, Pierce's crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.
