Sam Wilson Returning As The Falcon

It looks like Marvel's latest publishing initiative will be embracing the past and placing many beloved characters in familiar situations. It'll be especially interesting for Sam Wilson, one of the current Captain Americas who is currently having a hard time under his mentor's Secret Empire regime.

The events of the current Marvel Comics crossover event have caused Wilson to abandon the iconic vibranium shield and the mantle that comes with it, instead working to smuggle people out of the United States and away from Steve Rogers' Hydra forces. It looks like the event's aftermath will push Wilson back into his old identity, too.

Marvel recently revealed a slew of new covers for ongoing and new comic book series set to launch in the coming months, including one for The Falcon featuring the original character back under the mantle.

The series Sam Wilson: Captain America recently featured a brand new character named Joaquin Torres take on the identity of Falcon, only he had bird-like mutations that gave him wings while Wilson adopted a flight suit.

The new cover features a new take on the character's look, sporting goggles similar to the character's Captain America guise but with a new costume.

It pays homage to Ron Wilson's cover to Invincible Iron Man #71, including the tagline "And Now It Begins."

We'll see if this cover is the beginning of a brand new ongoing series, a limited series, or even a one-shot. The Falcon has only previously shared billing of an ongoing series alongside Captain America, but Wilson has shown to be able to support his own book with a compelling cast surrounding him. If he gets his own solo series, it will definitely be a welcome addition to Marvel's output.

We will learn more about Marvel Legacy over the coming months, with info expected to drop at San Diego Comic-Con in a few weeks.
