Power Rangers fans have plenty to be excited about in the realm of tabletop with Hyperforce, and now Super Sentai fans can join in on the tabletop fun.
Tabletop players can create their own Sentai adventures in the new RPG Henshin!, which comes from the minds of Tim Batiuk and Sam Kusek. The two joined up with Cave of Monsters Games to produce the game, which is available for download as a pay what you want title. Evan Palmer created the artwork for the basic set, while Emmett Helen created the art for the expansion.
So what is Henshin! exactly? It's an RPG designed as a love letter to sentai, which is the genre of Japanese superheroes. Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, and the North American adaptation Power Rangers are all forms and offshoots of the genre, where color-themed heroes fight monsters with crazy weapons and giant mechs.
You can download the basic play kit and immediately hit the tabletop. The game currently supports 3 to 6 players, with every player save for one choosing a hero (Red, Blue, Black, Green, Yellow, or Pink) while one plays the role of the narrator (GM). You can play the game in episode formats (great for a time crunch) or as a campaign, with sessions lasting from 2 to 4 hours.
Players can also pay an extra $2 to grab the Monster Freak module, which will introduce Bell Hill to the game, a town that used to house classic monster films with a much larger secret behind it.
You can find the official description for Henshin! below.
"Most participants play a Color, a hero designated by archetypes as described in their playbook. One participant is the Narrator, describing the world and all other characters as needed, in addition to guiding each episode through a satisfying arc. Henshin! does not use dice or cards, instead utilizing a unique token system fueled by players advancing the fiction through relevant actions. One session of play lasts for about 2 to 4 hours."
If you've been looking for something different to bring to the table, Henshin! might be right up your alley!
