The Walking Dead issue #175 teased a family reunion for Michonne but could there be another reunion on the horizon?
Rick's brother Jeff, who had only ever been featured in a canon one-shot issue called The Walking Dead: The Alien, was presumably bitten in his debut. The character was seen scrambling across Barcelona with a woman named Claudia, only to set sail for the U.S. bleeding from his leg.
Before Jeff Grimes died, he told Claudia to look out for his brother Rick -- a sheriff in the United States. "My brother Richie is in the hospital but by the time I made it to the airport, the quarantines had already started," Jeff said. Claudia, however, was determined to get Jeff home to see his brother.
With the commonwealth appearing to be the place-to-be for survivors year into the zombie apocalypse, Jeff would almost certainly be there if his wound was anything other than a bite mark and his journey landed him stateside.
In the Letter Hacks section of the same issue which teased the first appearance of a member of Michonne's family, a fan wrote to writer and creator Robert Kirkman suggesting a new pal for Rick. "I really think Rick needs a bro at the moment," Gemma Fisher wrote. "After the passing of Andrea he has been at the grave a lot. I'm not sure how he is going to come back from this. Give him someone he can have a beer with and open up to."
According to Kirkman, Gemma's suggestion may have been taken into account before it existed. "You're on to something," The Walking Dead editor Sean Mackiewicz. "Maybe Rick's new bro has already been established recently."
It seems a bit on the nose and spoiler-y for Kirkman to literally mean Rick's brother Jeff but such a reunion would be exactly what the former Sheriff would need to continue pushing forward. The Walking Dead: The Alien released in April of 2016.
The New World Order story arc is set to play out across six issues of The Walking Dead with the next installment, issue #176, set to release in February. The Walking Dead returns for the second half of its eighth season on February 25, 2018 on AMC. For complete coverage and insider info all year long, follow @BrandonDavisBD on Twitter.
