2016 was an awesome year for anime as new shows have reached international success and there has been more coverage and exclusives on American streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. Additionally, existing franchises brought fresh adaptations and sequels that brought in new fans, and made old fans excited again.
Nico Nico Douga, which is one of the largest Japanese video hosting services, conducted an online survey all of the TV anime titles that streamed in 2016.
The survey was named "The Most Interesting Anime Grand Prix 2016," via its "Nico Nico Enquête" system for its 50 million users. For 2 days, between December 23 and 26, 306,568 people (male: 66%, female: 34%) voted for their best anime of 2016.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable
At the #1 spot, From David Production, Jojo's Bizzare Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable is the fourth part of the adaptation of the manga series.
This part of the Bizzare Adventure begins in 1999 in the small and quiet town of Morioh. The story follows Joutarou Kuujou as he heads into town to meet Jousuke Higashikata. The two quickly realize that this is their first time meeting, there is a hidden connection between them.
Joutarou and Jousuke end up meeting others along their adventures and ends up forming a group this is dedicated to investigating recent disappearances and other suspicious occurrences within Morioh. They end up encountering many dangers and uncovering many mysteries along the way.
Re: Zero -Starting Life in Another World
#2 On the List, is Re: Zero-Starting Life in Another World follows the teenage boy Subaru Natsuki as he is transported from his boring everyday life into a fantasy world.
He is immediately met by a group for thugs who attack him, but he is saved by a mysterious beauty named Satella. She informs him that she is on a mission to find her stolen insignia, and immediately Subaru agrees to join her on her mission in order to thank her for saving him. They are faced by darker forces than either of them could have imagined, and time seems to be stuck for the both of them.

The series revolves around Kazuma Satou a teenage boy who is sent to a fantasy world following his accidental death. He meets a goddess named Aqua who gives him an option to go on to heaven or reincarnate in a real fantasy world. Kazuma chooses to follow his gamer dreams and start life in this new fantasy world, but he is faced by challenges right away. Aqua tells him the only way to return home is to defeat the villain known as the Devil King. It is up to Kazuma to overcome his selfishness and takedown the evil monster.
Yuri!!! On ICE
#4 is an Anime that is taking the world by storm: Yuri!!! On Ice.
The series starts with, Yuuri Katsuki, once Japan's most promising figure skater, returning to his family's home. Yuuri's failure's are really affecting him, and his window for success in ice skating is coming to coming to an end rapidly.
However, Yuuri finds himself having a chance for success when a video of him performing randomly goes viral. Yuuri then starts his epic journey of making it back onto the world stage, but competition and fierce and tension is high between the competitors
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans
Last but definitely not least on the list at #5 is: Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
This is the fourteenth installment in the long-running Gundam franchise. The year is Post Disaster 323, and Mars has been terraformed and colonized by humans. However with all of the technological advancements, there also comes negative side effects. The humans on Mars are oppressed and want freedom away from the government of Earth in order to have better living conditions. The series follows the exploits of a group of young soldiers who form a rebellion to fight for the people of Mars.
