It may be simple-minded, but there aren't many things more entertaining than giant fighting robots.

The mecha genre is home for legendary anime series such as Mobile Suit Gundam, Code Geass, and Evangelion. Plenty of fans have wondered how these machines would look up-close, but what if you could really see one of these giant robots in real life?

Well, if you take a trip to China, then you can see one firsthand.

Last year, Chinajoy Gaming Expo revealed a giant Evangelion Unit-01 statue, but it was unfortunately torn down after. However, on Tuesday, the glorious mech was reassembled in a new location in Shanghai. The robot was built crouching and holding a super weapon known as the Spear on Longinus.

For you Evangelion fans out there, it's okay to geek out.

It was announced that the statue won a Guinness World Record award, under the category of World's largest Evangelion. The statue was created to Hideaki Anno's Studio Khara, and it was measured at a breathtaking 24.8 meters in height from the tip of its spear to its feet.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is an apocalyptic anime that sets place in Future Tokyo. In this future there are giant bio-machine mechs called Evangelions that fight against other monstrous entities. The series explores the experiences of various Evangelion pilots and has a large following of fans around the world.

Fans of the Evangelion franchise have been patiently waiting for the next film that is currently in development, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0. Creator Hideaki Anno announced back in September of 2016 that he was going to start working hard on the long awaited fourth film of the series that debuted back in 2012. With the development and anticipation building for the new movie, does this mean we will be getting new statues of Evangelions around the world? What if Japan built some which actually animate and move?

With the technology and building of these mechs in the real world, especially if we get animatronic ones, that could open up the possibility of a live action film. Think about the possibility of seeing our favorite robots fighting in real life on the big screen. We can only dream...for now, at least.

What do you think about the statue, should we have more giant statues of popular anime figures?
