In the Dragon Ball world, fans have become accustomed to the franchise's interconnected nature. From Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball Z and beyond, the series has been woven together by countless episodes and characters. This weekend, Dragon Ball Super brought nostalgia to fans of the franchise with its debut of the 'Universal Survival' arc. And, in the saga's opening moments, fans were treated to a foreboding Dragon Ball Z easter egg.

In the beginning moments of Dragon Ball Super, fans watched as Goku sold off plenty of his vegetables at a local farmer's market before he rushed home. Thinking of training, Goku pulled over on his trek home to help a man who's truck had broke down, but the hero finds himself held up when the man pulls a gun. When Goku fights back against the gang, fans watch as he nabs a bullet shot at him in mid-air, holding it between his fingers. The disarmed baddie looks petrified as Goku fondles the metal before flicking it back at the man, leaving him unconscious on the ground.

If the scene looked familiar to you, then it is because fans saw a remarkably similar thing happen in Dragon Ball Z. In the iconic series, a farmer founds himself accosted on his land, but it was not Goku who KO'd the decidedly feeble human. No, it was Raditz.

For those of you who need a reminder, Raditz is the older brother of Goku. The Saiyan was introduced in the early days of Dragon Ball Z as his battle with Goku is what prompted the latter man to train harder following his temporary death. Recognized as a villain, Raditz brutally threw back a bullet at the sheepish farmer and relished in the power he had over men like him. So, of course, fans are somewhat taken aback to see Goku take after his maniacal brother in this regard.

For some, fans are wondering whether the action is really just a harmless easter egg. The 'Universal Survival' arc has set up Goku to be the fall-man for the impending danger facing each of the anime's universes. And, if he is to blame for the loss of millions of lives down the road, some characters may go so far as to call Goku a villain if they were feeling brave.

This weekend, Dragon Ball Super's story arc kicked off the 'Universal Survival' saga. You can check out the brief synopsis for it below:

As for the saga's start date, the new arc premiered on February 5, 2017. The "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
