My Hero Academia Season 2 Will Last Longer Than You Think

In a month, one of last year's most popular anime titles will be making a return. My Hero Academia quickly jumped to the top of ratings boards and fan-lists around the world thanks to its quirky, action-packed story. Now, the series will be getting a second season, and fans have just learned a rather interesting tease about the upcoming comeback.

Thanks to one anime publisher, fans have learned the second season of My Hero Academia will likely be longer than they thought. The French company Kaze listed the anime's new season as have a total runtime equivalent to two cour cycles. Cable programs are broken up in these seasonal slots, so two cour blocks equals about half a year of content. The publisher made the accidental reveal when it listed My Hero Academia's second season home releases. The two bundles each have a runtime of 318 minutes, and just one of those would just about fill one anime cour in Japan.

So far, there is no official episode count for the new season, but fans can take a guess at how many it will entail. The first season ran for 13 episodes between April and June 2016. If the second season is meant to double the previous order, then fans should expect at least 25 episodes of My Hero Academia in the coming year.

The synopsis for My Hero Academia can be read below:

"There's a new hero in town! My Hero Academia is a superhero origin story that soars to the top of the class! Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That's right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered "quirk," Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that's not going to stop him from enrolling in one of the world's most prestigious hero academies. Now, the only thing standing between him and his first class is the academy's formidable entrance exam—nothing a little private tutoring from the world's mightiest hero can't solve."

Overseen by Bones Studio, My Hero Academia's second season will be directed by Kenji Nagasaki. Yousuke Kuroda will oversee and pen its scripts while Yoshihiko Umakoshi serves as chief animation direction. Music will be composed by Yuuki Hayashi. And, most importantly, the entirely of the first season's cast will be returning along with several new additions. Characters like Mei Hatsume, Itsuka Kendo, Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu, and more will be added to the superhero anime.

My Hero Academia will return March 25, 2017 for a recap special before the first episode of Season 2 launches April 1.
