So, naturally, fans would be confused if either Asuna or Kirito went behind the other's back to get some side loving. That is exactly why some netizens are starting to freak out online over a curious photo of Kirito.

Over on Twitter, the ordeal began when a Japanese fan posted a photo of a Kirito standee at her local theater. The new Sword Art Online movie is still showing abroad in cinemas, and massive adverts have been erected for the films. Cutouts of Kirito and Asuna have been littered all over the country, but one of them has been a little unfaithful.

That's right! In one unassuming theater, Kirito was photographed with evidence which points to his adulterous ways. A standee of the poor hero was defiled by a fan who popped a kiss right on his lips, leaving a bright lipstick mark in its place. Asuna can be seen looking at her lover from a poster in the background, and are those tears in her eyes?

Clearly, the cheating accusation began as a joke, but fans of Sword Art Online have taken the photo one step further. Many fans are now waging wars over whether the real-world kiss means anything to the anime couple's longstanding relationship.

However, one thing remains clear amongst the fandom. If Kirito were to try and cheat on Asuna, there would be a slew of fans out to get him. No one gets to mess with the long-haired heroine; Not even her digital hubby.

You can check out the synopsis for Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale below:

"In 2022, the world of virtual reality was upended by the arrival of a new invention from a genius programmer, Akihiko Kayaba, called NerveGear. It was the first full-dive system, and with it, came endless possibilities to VRMMORPGs.

In 2026, a new machine called the Augma is developed to compete against the NerveGear and its successor, the Amusphere. A next-gen wearable device, the Augma doesn't have a full-dive function like its predecessors. Instead, it uses Augmented Reality (AR) to get players into the game. It is safe, user-friendly and lets users play while they are conscious, making it an instant hit on the market. The most popular game on the system is "Ordinal Scale" (aka: OS), an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma. Asuna and the gang have already been playing OS for a while, by the time Kirito decides to join them. They're about to find out that Ordinal Scale isn't all fun and games…"
