Netflix's Death Note Reveals Mia Character Poster

In just over a month, Netflix will finally debut its live-action take on Death Note, and promotions for the film are already ramping up. The first screening of Death Note will take place at San Diego Comic Con later this week, and now, a brand-new character poster of the film's female lead has dropped.

Thanks to Entertainment Tonight, fans can get a close-up look at the character Mia. The girl is played by Margaret Qualley, and the lead's name is shifted from Misa Amane to Mia Sutton. As fans can see in the poster, the teenager is shrouded in shadows as she clings to a Death Note. Scribbled writing is overlaid on Mia, and her out-of-focus gaze can be seen looking out as she clutches the deadly book in her hands.

If you are not familiar with Mia or Misa from Death Note, then you will want a refresher on the girl. After all, the character is one of the series' most important leads after Light and L. In the manga, Misa is a burgeoning model who also happens to be an obsessive supporter of Kira, Light's serial killer alter-ego.

After watching her family get murdered, Misa comes to idolize Light when the boy uses his Death Note to kill their alleged killer. The girl comes to discover Light's alter-ego by using a power she made a trade for known as Shinigami Eyes. The gift gives Misa the ability to see people's true name and death dates, so the girl offers to help Light find out the true identity of the detective L who is investigating Kira. Misa goes forward with her own Shinigami named Rem to protect Light from investigations, and her love for the twisted boy only continues to grow.

Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.
