Studio Ghibli is one of the most popular anime studios of all time, and for good reason, as it has been the home for some of the most memorable films in anime history. This year, the magical films made a return to theaters, and it looks like they will be also making their way back to fans shelves as well. GKIDS, an American film distributor has a new deal with the Studio Ghibli to reissue all of the films on Blu-ray and DVD this year.

GKIDS brought six popular Ghibli films to theaters earlier this year, and now the company is setting its sights higher with the rest of the Ghibli catalog. The company will take on Ghibli's full 20-film catalog, which includes classics like Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, and Spirited Away. Fans of the films will soon be able to add their favorites in Blu-ray to their collection.

Before the films come to Blu-ray however, GKIDS will continue showing the features in theaters. The theater re-releases started with My Neighbor Totoro, the critically acclaimed story about two young girls as they explore a new home and magical forest full of playful spirits and cute creatures. Other movies on the list include Kiki's Delivery Service, Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle. Each film was and will be shown on two days, one day for English and one Japanese, on the following dates:

  • My Neighbor Totoro: June 25 and June 26
  • Kiki's Delivery Service: July 23 and July 24
  • Castle in the Sky: August 27 and August 28
  • Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind: September 24 and September 25
  • Spirited Away: October 29 and October 30
  • Howl's Moving Castle: November 26 and November 27
