There's a distinct chance that an image of some Dragon Ball Super merchandise has just revealed a new form for Goku, the franchise's longtime protagonist.
Warning! Spoilers for Dragon Ball Super’s "Universal Survival" arc may lie below:
If you’ve kept up with Dragon Ball Super, then you know Goku is preparing to debut a brand-new form. The team over at Toei Animation teased fans that the hero will undergo a transformation during the "Universal Survival" arc. The announcement got the Dragon Ball fandom buzzing as theories came up left and right. And, now, it looks like that form may have leaked by accident.
A new magazine hit shelves over in Japan, and it featured plenty of new Dragon Ball Super merchandise. One of the images advertised a tasty new chocolate treat molded in the shape of Goku, but one of its packages caught attention. If you look at the item’s top-right corner, you can see a photo of Goku powering up behind his Super Saiyan Blue form. However, the new image has Goku in a form fans have not seen before.
The promo art shows Goku with distinctly red hair that’s styled like any other Super Saiyan hairdo. The image doesn’t appear to show Goku going Super Saiyan God as it lacks the form’s magenta coloring and it has fully spiky hair. Previous Dragon Ball Super forms like Super Saiyan Rose have leaked before thanks to merchandise packaging, so fans are speculating this obscured look may actually depict Goku’s new transformation.
Still, fans aren’t quite sure what the form will be or even if it is an entirely new Super Saiyan state. Fans have made up some convincing theories about the form though, and you can read up on them below:
There’s no denying the similarity between Goku’s Super Saiyan God form and this potential transformation. Their shared coloring has some fans thinking Goku will simply unlock a new power-up within his base Super Saiyan God form that’s never been seen before, and its debut will prove to the Gods of Destruction that the Saiyan isn’t one to mess with. After all, one tag-line for Dragon Ball Super’s current arc is, "The technique of the gods is perfected here." Goku may just be the man who does that.
One of the most popular theories surrounding Goku’s new transformation has to do with his Kaoi-Ken power-ups. The boost has happened to Goku and other Saiyans during moments of great emotional turmoil, but the hero never managed to completely fuse his Super Saiyan Blue form with Kaoi-Ken. Goku could very well merge his godly ki and Kaoi-Ken boost to create a brand-new power-up. And, if that is the case, the Tournament of Power better watch out.
Another popular theory surrounding Goku’s new form is that it simply may be one which fans have not seen before at all. Audiences are growing tired of simple recolored Super Saiyan updates, so the fandom has whipped up the idea of the Limit Breaker transformation. Fans have been teased that something “terrible” will happen before Goku debuts his new form, so Dragon Ball Super could give the hero a limit-breaker form similar to Kale’s raging berserker form.
