One Piece fans are celebrating the anime's 20th anniversary this year and as a result, those fans are getting a spin-off series of one of their favorite characters in Portgas D. Ace. In addition, sketches have been released of Ace's never before seen the pirate crew, set to feature in the spin-off.

Ace was the adopted brother of both Sabo and Monkey D. Luffy, with the pirate also being the biological son of the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger and his lover Portgas D. Rouge. After the death of Roger, Marine Vice-Admiral Monkey D. Garp then adopted the young boy and acted as his grandfather, as both Garp and Roger agreed on before Ace's birth. In addition, Ace was also the adopted son of Monkey D. Dragon.

Ace later became the captain of the Spade Pirates and the 2nd division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. After being caught and sentenced to death, Ace was later rescued by his younger sibling in Luffy. However, Ace later sacrificed himself in order to save his younger brother from the hands of Akainu.

Ace or better known as "Fire Fist", as a result, had become one of the most popular characters in the One Piece universe, with his unselfish death touching the hearts of every One Piece fan. As a result, Ace will now be getting his own spin-off series, with fans eager for its release.

Originally created by manga illustrator Eiichiro Oda, One Piece since its manga release had inspired a number of spin-off series, an animated series, multiple animated films, video games and a soon to be created live-action adaptation.

Viz Media's synopsis for One Piece can be read below:

As a child, Monkey D. Luffy dreamed of becoming King of the Pirates. But his life changed when he accidentally gained the power to stretch like rubber—at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, Luffy sets off in search of the One Piece, said to be the greatest treasure in the world…

Eiichiro Oda began his manga career in 1992 at the age of 17, when his one-shot cowboy manga Wanted! won second place in the coveted Tezuka manga awards. Oda went on to work as an assistant to some of the biggest manga artists in the industry, including Nobuhiro Watsuki, before winning the Hop Step Award for new artists. His pirate adventure One Piece, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1997, quickly became one of the most popular manga in Japan.
