Toei Animation released a teaser for Dragon Ball Super’s 107th episode this week, and it sees Master Roshi make a controversial decision. After nearly dying in battle with one of Universe 4’s fighters, Roshi is about to unleash a move which will most likely kill him.
See, Roshi is about to bring the Evil Containment Wave back to Dragon Ball Super, and fans are worried the move will drain what is left of his life force. As you can watch above, Roshi can be seen using the powerful move against Frost from Universe 6. A voice-over of Goku can be heard pleading with Roshi to avoid the attack.
“Master Roshi, you’re gonna use the Evil Containment Wave,” Goku questions. “Don’t! Any more and you’ll die for sure this time!”
If you are not familiar with the Evil Containment Wave, then you should know the move has a long history with Dragon Ball. The move was created by Master Mutaito but made popular by Roshi. The martial artist tried to use the attack on King Piccolo to trap him, but the Evil Containment Wave fails. Roshi shortly after using the move because of its massive energy drain.
Roshi may have popularized the move, but the fighter isn’t the only one who’s used it. Characters like Tenshinhan, Future Trunks, and Goku have all used the attack before; In fact, Goku used the Evil Containment Wave in Dragon Ball Super in a bid to seal Future Zamasu. However, Roshi and Mutaito are the only ones who have died from using the attack, and that precedent is making fans nervous.
Still, there’s a chance Roshi will survive the attack. The fighter used the move against Decori in the Tournament of Power, but the man was not weakened when he did so. If Goku is worried about his mentor performing the move now, fans are right to be eyeing Roshi with care. Dragon Ball may not keep its characters dead for long, but their passings never fail to sting. For fans, that pain only doubles when it is poor old Roshi who kicks the bucket.
