'Black Clover' Reportedly Expanding Its Episode Order

Shonen series aren't rare in the anime industry, but it is difficult to find a show that does the genre justice. New series like My Hero Academia have managed to liven up the shonen landscape in recent years, and Black Clover hopes to do the same with its newly updated episode order.

After all, Pierrot did just add a lot of episodes to its order for season one.

The animation studio has yet to officially announce the season one change, but a vetted fan-site online appears to have gotten a tip about the expansion. Taking to Twitter, Yonkou_Prod posted a message saying they had confirmed Black Clover's 13-episode order has now been expanded to a full 51 episodes. Given the account's track-record with leaks, otakus are willing to get behind Yonkou_Prod's source for this.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Black Clover would only get a 13-episode order for its first season. The new surfaced once Funimation updates its page for the anime with the short count, but Yonkou_Prod claims the number added to the company's website was just a placeholder. Black Clover's first season is expected to run for more than 50 episodes, meaning it may take 4-6 cours to complete its premiere season.

Black Clover premiered at the start of October 2018, and it has only debuted two episodes as of right now. Fans are split over the anime so far, but a few common complaints have arisen from the series. Fans have had notable issues with how Black Clover's voice actor for Asta sounds, and others have critiqued the show's prevalent use of shonen cliches. Still, there will be 50+ episodes to sort through before its first season comes to an end. The anime still has time to convert Black Clover's biggest haters into supporters, so it better give Asta an inside-voice sooner rather than later.

For those unfamiliar with Black Clover, the series comes from creator Yuki Tabata and was launched in issues of Shonen Jump in 2015. Popular since its debut, the series follows an orphan boy named Asta who is seemingly born without any magic power -- something unheard of in the world he lives in. Asta grows up with is friend, Yuno, a born prodigy with immense magical talent and the story follows the two as they compete to see who will become the strongest Magic Knight in Clover Kingdom, the Wizard King.
