Dragon Ball Super has been teasing us with Goku's new Ultra Instinct power, which seems to come and go at random, as Goku battles increasingly powerful opponents in the Tournament of Power.

As with anything in Dragon Ball, the terminology surrounding Ultra Instinct is as important as the form itself. There has been a lot of debate over the finer points of translation when discussing Ultra Instinct, and a new detail may great aid in furthering our understanding of it:

When Ultra Instinct first made its debut in episode 109, we here at Comicbook.com Anime broke down how the exact translation and language described it as a "state" or "power" rather than a traditional Dragon Ball transformation or limit break. However, while that terminology may be important for understanding the nature and origins of Ultra Instinct, it's probably not all that relevant to how this new power will be used in the series.

As with any new form, limit break, or state Goku unlocks, the Saiyan warrior will gradually master Ultra Instinct and better be able to employ it at his whim. How Goku further evolves as a result is a big question looming on the horizon, but his access of this rare state of being suggests he has more awareness and connection to his Ki than even a God of Destruction. And that fact could have major implications for where this "Universe Survival" arc is headed next...

Dragon Ball Super's "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami airs the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
