According to Variety, Ryan Reynolds has landed the coveted role of DC Comics' Green Lantern. Previous reports had Reynolds competing for the role against a former boy band member and one of the stars from The Hangover. Ryan Reynolds is no stranger to comic book movies, but the Green Lantern movie looks to be his biggest role yet. Interestingly enough, Ryan Reynolds' previous comic book roles have all involved characters from DC Comics competitor Marvel Comics. Reynolds played the role of Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity, and he also played the role of Deadpool in the recent X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. It has also been recently announced that the Deadpool character will be spun-off into his own movie, and Ryan Reynolds was announced as reprising his role as the title character. In addition, Ryan Reynolds is married to Scarlett Johansson, who is starring as the Black Widow in the highly anticipated Iron Man 2 movie. Given Reynolds connection to so many Marvel Comics projects, most (including us) were predicting the role would wind up going to Bradley Cooper of The Hangover fame. However, given that rumors place the budget of the Green Lantern movie in the $200 million range, it's probably not surprising that producers chose to go with an actor with previous experience in comic book movies.
