Museums are some of our nation’s most influential teachers.  Our nation’s progress, battles, people and major events and pieces of memory are preserved in ways that teach countless numbers each year about not just people and things of the past, but where we are going in the future.  The Geppi’s Entertainment Museum in Baltimore, Maryland aims to do exactly the same, using pop culture as its driving vehicle.  Since its opening in September of 2006, the museum has been home to over 6,000 pieces of American pop culture history, each lovingly preserved and presented in a way that gives the visitor a true glimpse of the evolution of media, comic books, toys and more.

Kat Dennings Joins ‘Thor’ Cast

November 24, 2009 · Posted in Thor movie · Comment

Never underestimate the power of a brilliant director that has the respect of the acting community.  That’s definitely the lesson to take from the Kenneth Branagh-directed “Thor.”

I have to admit that when Marvel announced plans to bring ‘Thor’ to the big screen oh-so-long-ago, I was a little scared.  Or apprehensive.  Or both.  Why?  Because of all of the scheduled Marvel films, ‘Thor’ had the most downside.  There was a cheese factor that could easily get incorporated into the film, and that wouldn’t be good for the movie–or comic book films as a whole.

But then Branagh was hired as Director, and all he’s done has bring in a star-studded, extremely talented cast.  Anthony Hopkins, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgard, and more.  Now Portman drops another casting decision on Splashpage:

“Well, I’m really excited…Kat Dennings is going to be in it with me and she’s a good friend and an amazing actress, so I’m looking forward to that.”

So are we.  The potential of ‘Thor’ keeps getting larger and larger.  With people throwing around words like ‘Shakespearean’, we’re about to move past this being just a movie and heading toward it being EPIC.

Should be fun to watch this unfold over the next year and a half.

Spider-Man’s “Gauntlet” Throws Down Everything but Subtlety

November 19, 2009 · Posted in Spider-Man · Comment

Over the past few weeks, images of Spider-Man lying in a grave surrounded by various pieces and accessories from a list of his classic villains such as Sandman and Mysterio have been shown in the buildup to what began in this week’s issue of Amazing Spider-Man, issue number 612 for those of you keeping score at home!  Yes folks, the event known as “The Gauntlet” kicks off here, brought to you by Mark Waid and Paul Azaceta, and big things are promised as Spidey gets put through the wringer by a host of villains.  Down on his luck Max Dillon, Electro, kicks things off with this issue, one that pulls on many modern parallels in regards to the economy, fears of Socialism and the cause of the working man.  All of this is set against the backdrop of problems at The Daily Bugle (pardon me, The DB), and Electro’s bad case of the blues! The Latest ‘Spider-Man 4′ Casting Rumor: Anne Hathaway

November 19, 2009 · Posted in Uncategorized · 2 Comments

Okay, now we’re getting somewhere.  It appears the crazy, bad casting rumors for ‘Spider-Man 4′ (Eddie Murphy, anyone?) are quickly being replaced by better choices.

The latest rumor: Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married, Get Smart) has been approached by the film’s producers to star in the film, according to Nikke Finke’s Deadline Hollywood.  Finke wasn’t sure which role Hathaway might be up for, but the logical assumption is Black Cat.

We would have been plenty happy with the previous rumor of Rachel McAdams as The Black Cat, but if Sony Pictures wants to bring on Anne Hathaway, we’re more than happy.
