Thanks for the Comic Book Memories: Memorable Deaths of the 2000’s

2009 saw some of the most memorable deaths in the entertainment and political realms in recent memory.  Icons, legends and established figures were taken from the world, some on the verge of a comeback and some in their prime.  Comics have also lost some icons, not only this year but in the past decade.  Death in the real world is a vastly different thing from that of the fictional world, with the prospect of return always a possibility where comics are concerned.  With that in mind we look back at some of the more memorable losses in comics over the first decade of the new millennium.  While not everyone who died is on this list, it hopefully covers those comic book deaths that were surprises, twists or the loss of those who were near and dear to the hearts and minds of readers everywhere for one reason or another.  Read more

Marvel Comics New Year’s Eve Party

Marvel Comics has announced a New Year’s Eve Party that will be taking place today at participating comic book shops. As part of the first ever celebration by Marvel, participating comic book shops will be offering free giveaways including a 2010 Marvel Super Hero calendar, Exclusive Avengers ID Cards to collect & trade, and a free comic book called Origins of Siege. Battlestar Galactica Actress to Pen Comic Book!

In her role as Starbuck(Kara Thrace) on the critically acclaimed TV series Battlestar Galactica , Katee Sackhoff rolled with what was written for her character with enthusiasm, be it the drinks, the fights or the dangerous missions she was given.  Now, Sackhoff has a chance to write the destiny of a group of characters herself, as she recently announced her intentions to get her own comic book into the hands of readers.  A partnership she undertook with a friend, Sackhoff’s book, titled Versus, is set to premiere at San Diego Comic-Con 2010.  She revealed a little about the roots of her interest in comics in an interview with TV Guide. Top Cow to Release new Broken Trinity Limited Series!

Last year, Top Cow took great strides in establishing Witchblade, The Darkness and Angelus as the main forces of power in their universe, and look for 2010 to continue that while also introducing other powerful beings with the February release of the first issue of Broken Trinity: Pandora’s Box, a limited series focusing on the events revealed in the first Broken Trinity series.  Michael Finnegan and Glorianna Silver, the bearers of the Artifacts known as the Glacier Stone and Ember Stone, respectively, are the focus of this series, whose quest to bring the 13 Artifacts revealed in the first series is accelerated by a fanatical cult seeking to get Pandora’s Box!
