When issue 202 of the comic book Veronica Comics, pardon the expression, comes out, it will have a very new addition to the Riverdale gang. This September will see young Kevin Keller enroll at Riverdale high , and his arrival will signal another one of Archie Comics' initiatives to bring the gang of teens into the contemporary world. Keller will be the first gay character in Archie's history, and the story will focus on Veronica's inability to get any interest out of him. "The introduction of Kevin is just about keeping the world of Archie Comics current and inclusive. Archie's hometown of Riverdale has always been a safe world for everyone. It just makes sense to have an openly gay character in Archie comic books," Archie Comics co-CEO Jon Goldwater said in announcing the news. The stories that Archie and its satellite books have been putting out lately are branching out into new areas and territory, attempting to add some diversity to the landscape. It has been assured that traditional members of the Riverdale group will not be coming out, and we can expect to see almost 50 more students come to Riverdale High when another school is shut down due to budget cuts. Archie now appears to be tackling the realm of the economic realities of the US as well! Will Kevin get his own love interest at some point? What other surprises does Archie have in store!?
